ioq3v6 not working

Hi Adminless, since a while after doing system update, ioq3v6 stopped working and trying running it in the terminal doesn't give errors apparently. Ioquake3 works strangely enough. I'm on Linux. I can post the terminal output if it's useful.

thanks for get back to me that's rare. anyways, from your output it can be seen that you have it properly installed and that for some reason it's crashing on your installment, it segfaults, which likely mean that you hit a bug on the program. I'll probably try to reproduce it further and may be get back to you with a degub version where you can provide more output. so far you can check if by chance some coredumpctl output gives a little more info. in the meantime, you can try to delete /home/***/ioq3v6-unfreeze-mini-client-v20.5/unfreeze/ufconfig-2005.cfg and see if that gets around the crash and if not probably the only "suspicious" thing I can observe there can be the openal init. may be give it a try to launch the game with the "+set s_useopenal 0" argument, it probably won't produce sound but at least it should show up if the problem is with openal.

Thanks for the answer, I tried deleting the .cfg file and disabling openal. Here's the output with +set s_useopenal 0 if useful:

ok, no problem it did not change anyting, it was just a quick way to rule out a problem there. unfortunately as I said there must some bug somewhere, in the next days I'll try to install some arch linux and see if I can reproduce it and then I'll get back to you. sorry for the incovenience and thanks for report.

Ok so I tried creating a coredump file, but it seems that no file is created as the process doesn't crash but exits nicely if I get this right...
I followed this https://stackoverflow.com/questions/615 ... u/18428730 and the test with sleep in the link does indeed create a coredump file. I'm confused :)

ok, don't worry I just uploaded a new ioq3v6 linux debug build here just in case you wanna have a quick look at this before I get there (which can take me some time). so please if you want grab that file and place it on your current ~/ioq3v6-unfreeze-mini-client-v20.5 folder (just like with the other ioq3v6 ones) and give it executable permissions (i.e. chmod +x ioq3v6-debug). then to genereta a backtrace of the crash (that's the information I need), first make sure to have installed the package/program gdb (the gnu debugger, likely you already have it or should have no problem installing it, otherwise let me know and I'll look it up for you if needed) and then run the previous file over gdb (ex. gdb ioq3v6-debug). that should launch the debugger session, on that console then type run to start the ioq3v6-debug and hopefully if everything went right it should crash and take you right away to the gdb console. here is where I need you to type the bt command which will generate the information I need about the crash. after that just do continue to finish the program and then quit to exit the debugger. after that copy here the bt command output the rest is not necessary. give it a try if can't make it or if someting fails and need further help let me know and sorry for the incovenience.

Just tried, I get a frozen black screen, so I have to open another tty and run "kill -9 ioq3v6" to kill the process. It seems the program doesn't crash on its own. Then, on the first terminal I still have the gdb console open and I can quit from it normally.

thanks for info that's also rare, let's see if in some days I can install some arch linux and give it a try. btw if you run the ioq3v6-debug file I posted alone (not in a debug session) I understand that it also hangs instead of crashing, am I right?

Anyway after I kill the process, when I type bt in the gdb console I get this : #0 0xf7e7a28c in XQueryExtension () from /usr/lib32/libX11.so.6

Yeah, if I run ioq3v6-debug in terminal it just exit like before.

mmm may be try gdb --args ioq3v6-debug +set r_fullscreen 0 and see if you get a clean gdb crash (also for safety delete the ufconfig-2005.cfg file).

and yeah the blank screen is the gdb blocking the app sorry about that my bad. try on windowed mode and with +set in_nograb 1 (i.e. gdb --args ioq3v6-debug +set r_fullscreen 0 +set in_nograb 1) and when gdb ask you for input (I guess it will when the app hangs) do the bt command.
